Any objectivists here or just Ayn Rand supporters? I really like her characters. Ha ha ha, Elsworth toohey and James Taggart, Now there’s a pair of characters. I love Ayn Rand’s books because that’s the best author that can characterize extremely well, have a really clear and good moral, good plot, good ending, and numerous other good aspects. Any other Rand supporters fond of those books because of these reasons?

Fountainhead
I love how Elsworth was fired both times. If I knew gail I’d applaud him. I also found Dominique and Peter together as a couple a rather fun part to read, anyone entertained at how Dominique treated Peter?

Atlas Shrugged
I liked Dagny and Francisco. Ooo, anyone amused by Dagny’s first stay at the valley (galt’s Gulch)? My favorite moment was when Francisco first joined them and found out that dagney was alive.

I just started reading Atlas shrugged. I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet. We will see how things go.

So, faithful, have any thoughts yet?

I would definitely not describe Ayn Rand as the best fiction writer, or even a good fiction writer. Not even halfway decent.
Her strength was in ideas, but her characters are flat as pancakes and her stories are bland and uneventful.
But they communicate her ideas well, which is all that matters as far as her contribution to culture goes.

I really don't think Ayn Rand was known for her talent in fiction, but for her talent in philosophy. Her ideas were and still are way more popular than her characters. Saying that Ayn Rand is the best fiction writer is just like someone else calling Mark Twain the best fiction writer.
I've went on a site and read several quotations by her, and my favorite is:
"The question is not who will let me, but who is going to stop me."
Frickin' fantastic!

Well, in Old Sam's defense, Mark Twain was one of the greatest fiction writers of all time.

Yeah, Twain is not my favorite, but he is good.

I haven't seen that one, but yeah, that's quite a nice quote.

I read Anthem in high school, and of our two summer reading selections that year it was my favorite. Haven't read any of her other works though, I hear they're pretty interesting so I guess I will someday.
